- Our Story -
We met at the Starbucks on York Boulevard in Los Angeles. It is almost exactly in the middle of where we used to live. I was sitting at a communal table, working on a set for a stand up show. Joannes at the time was a graduate student. She says she noticed me first while standing near the barista, waiting for her order.
"Might as well sit next to the cute guy," she often says when she tells the story.
Joannes sits across from me. I notice her when she asks if she can lower the shades. I wait for my moment to talk to her.
"Can you watch my laptop while I use the bathroom? You know, in case someone tries to take it?" Smooth, I know.
I come back. She tells me, "I just want to let you know a bunch of bad guys tried to take your laptop, but I beat them up for you." Now that was smooth.
We start talking. Joannes tells me she majored in broadcast journalism. "So did I," I say. She says she worked at a small TV station as a producer/reporter. "So did I," I replied. At that point, I knew it wasn't just a conversation between two former journalists. It was fate.
It was on that day that I met the one who would change my life forever. On that day, I met the love of my life.
